Pet Peeve

'member when we were kids and we all had house chores assigned to us? Two worked on the living room, one worked on the kitchen, and sometimes one worked on the bathroom? We didn't always want to do the chores, but sometimes we knew that we could have the rest of the day if we hurried up and finished them, i.e. swimming all day at the river. We did them out of routine, we did them out necessity, we did them out of fear of consequences for them not being done. Whatever the reason, we still did them. From the oldest kid down to the next 5-6 year old in line. Although most of the time the boys escaped and stayed outside all day to avoid them. So why the hell can't I get my kids to do to the same? Not the escape outside part, but the assigned chore part. I look at them, and I think to myself, when I was your age....


Maybe it's because I hate the confrontation that follows. I would rather just let them slide past than have them argue with me, and whine and complain, and drag their feet so long that I lose my temper and I start yelling........AAAAARRRRGGGGHHH!
I so need to work past this or I will have teenagers running all over me.....
